Hiring a skip is a great idea – especially if you expect your project to generate a huge amount of rubbish. Here at Preston Skips, we specialise in domestic and commercial skip hire, and accommodate the needs of customers all over the northwest.

We receive many enquiries about the cost of our skip hire services, however, the price can vary depending on the scale of your project and various other factors.

5 factors that determine the cost:

  1. Skip size

At Preston Skips, we provide a variety of domestic skips, ranging from 2-cubic yards, right the way up to 16-cubic yards, and commercial skips and enclosed compactor bins. Like anything else, our larger skips cost more upfront but reduce the need for you to hire a second or third one.

  1. Waste type

Our skips are great for storing all kinds of waste materials – be it soil, rubble, old furniture, junk or construction waste. However, the size of these materials can determine skip size which also impacts on the cost of your skip hire.

Some items aren’t suitable for the skips we provide and need to be disposed of separately. These include hazardous materials such as asbestos, sharp objects and plasterboard. If prohibited items are found in our skips, you could be faced with a hefty fine for not complying with strict regulations – increasing the cost of skip hire.

  1. Permits

We recommend leaving a skip on your drive – easily accessible and out of reach of fly-tippers. If you’d prefer the skip to be left on the road, this is also not a problem, however, we will need to obtain a permit to legalise your hire.

For skips left on the road, you will incur a permit charge of £35 but you can relax in the knowledge that your skip hire complies with legislations.

  1. Rental period

Whether you’re looking for skip hire in Wigan, Leyland, Bolton or Chorley, we provide skips for up to three weeks. We’ll arrange to collect it from your premises at a convenient time and dispose of waste on your behalf.
