Our Policies

Health and safety

Preston Skip Hire will endeavour to:

  • Provide and maintain safe working environments without risk to Health and Safety.
  • Set standards that comply with all relevant statutory requirements relating to health, safety and the environment with regard to our effect on employees, customers, contractors and the public.
  • Safeguard employees and others from foreseeable hazards with regard to health, safety or the environment in existing processes and working systems.
  • Ensure that when new substances, plant, machinery, equipment, processes or premises are introduced, adequate guidance, instruction and supervision are provided for safe methods of work to be developed.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of their own responsibilities in respect of relevant health, safety and environmental matters.
  • Aim to achieve the commitment and active involvement of all staff in order that safety awareness and positive attitudes are fostered, and continuous efforts are made to improve safety performance.
  • Ensure that contractors carrying out works are informed of relevant standards, are trained in procedures as necessary, and that systems are established for monitoring compliance, without detracting from the contractors legal responsibilities, to ensure that requirements are met.
  • Co-operate with appropriate authorities and technical organisations both to ensure that policies are updated and to contribute to the formulation of standards and means of compliance.
  • Retain, and review as necessary, existing arrangements for safety committees to maintain effective consideration of health and safety measures.

This policy will be regularly monitored to ensure that the objectives are achieved. It will be reviewed and, if necessary, revised in the light of legislative or organisational changes.

Environmental Policy

  • Preston Skip Hire take a deliberate approach to prevent pollution and reduce waste sent to landfill.
  • Prevention and reduction are far more desirable and economically beneficial than rectifying damage after the event.
  • As a company, we control our activities to avoid causing unnecessary and unacceptable risks or adverse effects on the environment as far as is reasonably practical.
  • As a minimum we will comply with all current legislation relevant to our activities. In addition we will:
  • Develop environmental awareness and individual responsibility amongst all our employees at all levels.
  • Preston Skip Hire will continue to improve standards by utilising technology, whilst maintaining a consistent recycling approach.
  • We will extract the maximum amount of reusable/recyclable materials. Any non-recyclables will be sorted, recorded and transferred safely to landfill.
  • Vehicles and equipment will be maintained and operated to provide the maximum environmental protection.
  • We will work in partnership with our customers, suppliers and subcontractors to achieve responsible and best value solutions to waste recycling.
  • Local community interests will be assessed and positive communication engaged where appropriate.
  • Reduce fuel consumption by using local providers of goods and services.
  • Effective methods of source separation will be preferred to maximise the recovery of materials and thereby minimise pollution.
  • Natural habitats and wildlife will be respected and controlling work around their habitats will be encouraged.

We shall keep this policy under review and ensure that the company consistently complies with current legislation and continually improves its environmental performance.

Recycling Policy

All waste collected by Preston Skip Hire will be taken to a registered waste transfer station. Once there, all waste materials are segregated through integrated recycling systems consisting of screening equipment, picking stations, and magnets, etc. Paper, plastics, cardboard, wood, plasterboard, ferrous and non ferrous materials are all recycled.

All construction and demolition waste e.g. soils, inert & heavy materials are put through a trommel screener to separate the soil, concrete & brick. The brick is cleaned and offered as recycled hardcore, whilst the concrete material is crushed for re-use in construction and all soils are processed for potential use as top soil.

The remainder of waste is taken and disposed of at a Registered Landfill Site. The recycling centers help their customers achieve the maximum recycling levels possible.
